Better Training for Safer Food Better Training for Safer Food is a Commission- DG Health and Consumers training initiative covering food and feed law, animal health and welfare and plant health rules. It trains Member State, candidate country national authority staff involved in official controls in these areas as well as private sector competent staff.
In June 2013 a new set of EU legislation on non-commercial movements of pet animals and on animal health requirements on intra-Union trade and imports of dogs, cats and ferrets has been issued (Regulations EU 576/2013 and 577/2013; Directive 2013/31/EU). The aim of this project is to train a high number of competent authorities’ staff in order to further improve the understanding and the harmonisation of the implementation of EU legislation on the above mentioned subjects.

Border Controls are fundamental to the animal and public health security of the European Single Market. With the enlargement of the European Union to 28 Member States it is necessary to ensure that all official staff engaged in border controls (including candidate countries, EFTA and EEA countries) have adequate training in order to better implement effective and harmonized border control checks.
Contract CHAFEA 2014 96 02: Organisation and implementation of training activities on inspection and calibration of pesticide application equipment in professional use under the Netter Training for Safer Food Initiative.
Contract 2013 96 16 The project will cover relevant aspects applicable to controls to be carried out to verify compliance with legislation on production, collection, processing, storage and transportation of semen, ova and embryos. The training is addressed to official veterinarians from local veterinary services responsible for official supervision of semen collection and storage centres and of embryos collection and production teams, and to officials from central Competent Veterinary Authorities in charge of this field of regulation.

Contract: EAHC 2012 96 13 – BTSF World - Food Safety/Plant Health – Asia/Pacific The project covers the organisation and implementation of training activities in Asia and Pacific countries in the framework of the "Better Training for Safer Food" initiative, to improve and strengthen the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) framework to allow better production, processing and trade of safe food, healthy animals and plants. The project includes the organisation of 7 four-days workshops and 270 working days of sustained training and technical assistance mission from October 2013 to September 2016.
The Contract EAHC/2012/96/11 requires the organization of six Regional Workshops to be implemented in Africa and ENP countries and dealing with Plant Health, PPP, the SPS framework RASFF and TRACES. The programme also foresees the organisation of Sustained Training and Technical Assistance Missions (STMs). The training will comprise presentations/discussion sessions, working group activities on case studies and serious gaming. Practical sessions with visits will be organised to allow hands on experience. The participants will be required to participate actively in the debriefings, discussions and group activities. Contract: (EAHC) 2012 96 16 Organisation and implementation of training activities on improving and strengthening the sanitary and phytosanitary framework in non-EU Member countries - Animal Health and Welfare in Asia and the Pacific The contract started in September 2013 and it will end in September 2016. A total of 6 regional workshops and 120 days of Sustained Training and Assistants Missions will be organized. 1 Workshop will be on Animal Welfare and 5 workshops will focus on different topics of Animal Health. 4 workshops will be organized in ASEAN region, 1 in the Pacific and 1 in SAARC...
Contract: EAHC 2013 96 04 - Organisation and implementation of training activities on food additives, flavourings and enzymes under BTSF – PHASE II. In 2016-2017, twelve four days training sessions will be organised in Ireland, Spain, Greece, Germany and Estonia. This programme about the EU approach for the evaluation, authorisation, monitoring and control of food additives, flavourings and enzymes includes new practical-oriented features to facilitate the understanding of the legislation and its enforcement.
